Why flag the issue? Communal politics and protests in Kathua

The joint rally by the Hindu Ekta Manch (HEM) and BJP in Kathua on 14th February 2018 demanding the release of SPO Deepak Khajuria, arrested in connection of the abduction, rape and murder of eight-year-old Asifa Bano in January 2018, has brought to the fore the blatant communal politics of the BJP-HEM combine. And, since the Congress is not ready to be left behind, Kathua is fast becoming a communal tinderbox.

PUDR grieves and rages at the suicide of the young girl from Kunduli, Koraput district on 22 January 2018, who succumbed to the failure of the State to guarantee justice and to secure the freedom of its citizens. On 10 October 2017, she was stabbed and gangraped by 4 security personnel, while returning back from school. Because she was a minor dalit girl, her account of rape was constantly disbelieved. And because the accused were men in uniform, the entire government and administrative machinery conspired to shield them from prosecution.

Condemn Draconian Ordinance by J&K Government!

Machil fake encounter: hopes belied

News reports of 27.07.2017 state that an Armed Forces Tribunal has suspended the life sentences awarded by a General Court Martial in 2014 and which were confirmed in 2015, to five army personnel for the killings of three Kashmiri civilians in April 2010, at Machil. The reason for suspension rests on presentation of ‘facts’ which have allegedly broken the chain of evidence established in the GCM. Bashir Ahmad Lone, the alleged counter-insurgent who had lured the three civilians to Kalaroos army camp, had not been examined in the Court Martial.

PUDR Condemns Award to Major Gogoi!

PUDR strongly condemns the commendation conferred on Major Leetul Gogoi by none less than the Army Chief for taking Farooq Dar hostage, tying Dar to the front of his jeep allegedly to ward off attacking stone-pelters, and then driving around for several hours to warn people that a similar fate awaited them. The incident where Dar was used as a human shield occurred in Budgam district in Kashmir  on  9th April 2017. The award has brought to pass what the Punjab CM, Capt. Amarinder Singh had vociferously advocated on 20th May.
