This report, published in 1991, is about the death of an autorickshaw driver, Shankar Lal, on the 14th of July 1991. This report is based on interviews with the doctors, police officers, SDM and the family of the deceased. Shankar was picked up on the 4th of July by the SHO of Connaught Place thana but was released. However around the 9th or 10th a complaint was made against Shankar related to drug peddling. From the 10th to the 14th of July, when Shankar ultimately died in the hospital, the report brings to light disturbing questions indicating the police’s role in the death of Shankar and a subsequent cover-up. This report then is an attempt to uncover foul play by the police and the search for justice by Shankar’s family.
