On 16 August 1993, a robbery took place at Ashok Vihar. Vinod was picked up by the police and taken to Basant Gaon. While returning back, police claim that Vinod snatched a police revolver and shot himself. He was taken to AIIMS, where he remained unconscious for 18 days and then died. PUDR investigated the case and found inconsistencies in the police story.
