CDRO expresses deep concern about the intensifying repression on the Dongria Kondhos of Niyamgiri mountains whose sustained resistance against bauxite mining is a fight for their survival and livelihood. CDRO condemns the midnight raid of the CRPF on the night of May 1, 2017 and the illegal and arbitrary manner in which 20-year old Kuni Sikaka was forcibly taken to the police station in the absence of women police personnel, leave alone any warrant. The next 36 hours were the most torturous for her and activists of Niyamgiri Suraksha Samiti(NSS),who followed her to the police station.

The Maoist attack of 24th April  in Burkapal village in  Sukma District which  left 25 CRPF jawans  and at least one Maoist dead is the latest  instance in  the cycle of violence and counter-violence between the security forces and the Maoists  in Chhattisgarh, which has resulted in  a regrettable loss of lives over the years.  The incident has understandably generated a great deal of anger and sorrow, as well as the expected political jingoism. The rumours that began circulating in the media added to the frenzy, hiding the real issues.

Peoples Union for Democratic Rights finds the two notices and a warning issued to SRP Kalluri, and the transfer of SP Sukma, I.K. The two notices apart from reprimanding them for attending a private function and making statements against the social media policy of the government, does not have anything for the threats advocated by them against citizens.
