CDRO (Coordination of Democratic Rights Organizations) expresses deep concern over recent reports regarding the re-launching of the notorious state-sponsored anti-Maoist militia, the Salwa Judum, from 25th May 2015. While inaugurating the Vikas Sangharsh Samiti in Dantewada on 5th May, the new leader, Chhavindra Kumar, announced that the main aim of the Samiti will be to “finish the Maoists in Bastar”. Pertinently, this announcement comes ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to the state with suggested plans of signing two significant MOUs valued at Rs.

दिसंबर 2014  में पी. यू. डी. आर. का एक जांच दल छत्तीसगढ़ के बीजापुर जिले के 9  गांवों  में गया. जांच दाल ने क्षेत्रों में माओवादियों  से लड़ने के लिए तैनात सुरक्षा बलों  के द्वारा की जा रही गिरफ्तारिओ, धमकियों एवं उत्पीड़न के  साथ -साथ यौन  उत्पीड़न  की घटनाओं  को दर्ज़ किया।  

On the 24 February, 2014, the LG of Delhi put off the demolition of the Kathputli colony till the 1st April. But demolished it will be. Nearly fifty year old Kathputli Colony, home to 3274 households comprising between 15000-17000 people will be bulldozed at the hands of a nexus between the Union Ministry of Urban Development, the DDA and the builders Rahejas.

This report discusses the account of attack on Pardhi community in September 2007 in Madhya Pradesh, a notified tribe, on the assumption of criminal nature of the Pardhi community. The attack demolished the entire village by the local farmers with active connivance of state machinery, including police and higher administration, politicians including MLA.  The displacement and destruction also included murder and gang rape.   While the administration seems to have actively engineered the conditions for the demolition, the police remained steadfastly inactive.

यह रिपोर्ट सितंबर 2007 मे  दक्षिण मध्य प्रदेश के चोठिया गाँव मे पारधी समुदाय पर स्थानीय किसानो द्वारा किए गए तहस नहस और उनके विस्थापन का ब्योरा देती है। इस घटना के दौरान पुलिस और उच्च प्रशासन की राज्य मशीनरी भी मौजूद थी। इलाके के विधायक और कई राजनैतिक नेताओं ने भी इस कार्यवाही को जायज ठहराया था। इस विध्वंस के दौरान हत्या और सामूहिक बलात्कार की घटनाओं का भी उल्लेख किया गया। स्थानीय कार्यकर्ताओं, वकीलों, और पत्रकारों के निरंतर प्रयासों के बाद केवल न्यायपालिका ही पारधीयों के बचाव के लिया आगे आई। 

The People’s Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) notes with concern the sad loss of 30 lives in the Maoist attack on the “Parivartan Rally” of Congress Party on 25 May 2013. This is the latest in the series of killings, big and small, in the ongoing undeclared war that the Indian government is waging against our own people. Many of the victims of this war are poor adivasis killed in operations by the security forces, that the government assiduously attempts to hide from the public at large.

PUDR unequivocally condemns the undemocratic ways of the Odisha government in trying to further corporate interests under the rhetoric of development, subjecting the locals to repression, displacement and a threat to survival. The arrest of Abhay Sahu, leader of the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) from Bhubaneshwar airport on 11th May in connection with a bomb blast case at Posco’s proposed steel plant site in Jagatsinghpur district is symptomatic of the same attempt of the government trying to eliminate all voices of opposition.

The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) at its meeting held during February 20-21 gave permission to the public sector SAIL to divert 210.526 ha of forest land in Jhillingburu of Saranda (Jharkhand) for iron ore mining. This was the second such project cleared by the FAC which allowed Jindal Steel and Power to divert 500 ha of forest land in Saranda earlier in February 2013.
